How can I receive subsidized housing?

I was living with my mother with my two children after fleeing an abusive situation. I am currently homeless because my mother lied to me and said that I was placed on the lease. Because of this the landlord kicked me and my children out stating that we were living there illegally and had to vacate the premises. I need to know is there any way that Public housing or any other subsidized housing program could help me?
