Is it totally safe to put the greenery growth of potato plants on the compost?

Most organic poisons (especially those of the nightshade family, potatoes included), are not terribly dangerous to humans and animals. In addition, they will probably break down when exposed to sunlight, open air, and heat. It is very unlikely that your potatoes will poison any other crops as compost. :)
