How do i recover my files from a ruined HD?

run a chkdsk on your hdd to see if it can repair any bad sectors. go to MY COMPUTER and right click it, select properties, select the tools tab, you will have three options, try the back up first to see if you can save your music, after, check the disk for errors to see if it can fix them. if that dont work try formatting your hdd, just put your operating system disk in and do a clean install, you dont lose all your data because itll make a new special folder named WINDOWS.OLD, there you will find all your music movies doents. let me know if any of this options work for you
