I always have maggots in my cricket cage and I dont know what Im doing wrong Any suggestions?....?

I keep 250 crickets in a 10 gallon aquarium with egg cartons in a dry area and with a temp of about 70F -80F I give them fruit and water and somehow everytime maggots appear and seem to wipe out my cricket population. I dont know what else to do???
